How to repair a computer. These steps are suitable for those of you who have computer problems. from a slow computer to those who have blue screen problems. If you have been using a computer for years, these types of problems are something that you might stumble upon occasionally.

These repair methods are also suitable for those of you who are experiencing:

1. Startup Repair

If you are not familiar with the Windows operating system and its components, then this startup repair process is highly recommended.

With this method, all you need to do is to wait for Windows to automatically fix the error.

Note that you need one of the following:

  • A Windows Installer DVD, or
  • A flash drive with a Windows installer file in it

If you have acquired either of the above. Then all you have to do is to follow these steps.

  • Plug the flash drive into your USB slot or the Installer DVD inside your disk drive.
  • Wait until the screen shows you the Installer page.
  • Click Repair Your Computer and click Next until you enter the System Recovery Options page
  • Select Startup Repair
  • Wait for the process to finish

2. Using CMD

The second way is to use the Command Prompt or CMD. just like the previous method you will need:

  • Windows DVDs
  • Flashdrive with Windows Installer inside

You may choose one of the two options. If you don’t have a Windows installer CD, using a flash drive that contains the installer files is also sufficient.

If everything is ready, follow the steps below.

  1. First, insert the installer disk or plug in the flash drive into the computer you want to repair.
  2. Then turn on the computer and press F2 repeatedly after it boots to enter the BIOS menu.
  3. In the BIOS, set the boot priority of the DVD/CD drive or the flash drive that has the installer disk on the top.
  4. Once you have entered the Windows install page, choose to Repair Your Computer.
  5. Select Next
  6. You see the System Recovery Options page next.
  7. Select Command Prompt at the bottom
  8. Then type ”Bootrec.exe” (without the quotes) in the command prompt box that appears.
  9. Wait for the process to finish.
  10. Next Type ”bootrec /fixmbr” and press Enter.
  11. After that, type ”bootrec /fixboot” and press Enter
  12. Nest step is to type in ”bootrec /scanos” and press Enter
  13. Finally, type”bootrec /rebuildbcd” and press Enter

Fixmbr is to fix the master boot record
Fixboot is to repair the boot
Scanos is to perform an error scan on the computer
Rebuildbcd is to rebuilt boot configuration data from scratch

Wait until the process has finished, then reboot the computer.

If you follow the steps above correctly, then the computer repair process with CMD is complete. But if the problem persists, try repeating the process starting from step 8 one more time.

3. Using System Restore

This system restores the method and also requires a Windows installer. And just like the previous method, you can repair your computer without losing data.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Windows installer page.
  2. Then click Repair Your Computer, select the language, and click Next
  3. On the System Recovery Options page, select System Restore, which is second from the top
  4. Click Next
  5. If you have previously backed up Windows using system restore, you can choose the restore point date before your Windows starts to have problems.
  6. Click Next again
  7. And then click Finish and wait for the process to complete

Note: This method might remove some programs that are installed Local Disk C. But it will not have any effects on personal data such as the one that are stored in My Documents, Pictures, Music, etc.

In addition to that, the restoration process also takes a long time.

4. With System Image Recovery

The next method is to use System Image Recovery. This method is suitable for computers that often experience BSOD

There are several steps to using System Image Recovery. Which is:

  1. Firstly, you need to enter the Windows installer page just like before
  2. Then click Repair Your Computer
  3. Click Next until the System Recovery Options page, then select the System Image Recovery method
  4. Next, select the System Image that you will use and click Next
  5. Click on the option ”use the latest available system image” then click Next
  6. Check the option “Format and Repartition disk ”.
  7. If there is more than one partition or disk drive that you want to save, then first click Exclude Disk so you won’t lose any data in other partitions or disk
  8. Click Next
  9. Click Finish and wait for the process to finish

Keep in mind, this System Image Recovery process should not be interrupted at all.

So if you are using a laptop, make sure it’s charging so that the laptop doesn’t turn off in the middle of the process.

5. Using Windows Memory Diagnostic

The last and also the easiest method for beginners is to use Windows Memory Diagnostic.

You don’t need a Windows installer with this method.

All you have to do is follow the guide below.

  1. First of all, turn on the laptop or computer as usual
  2. Then go to the start menu and type”mdsched” (without the quotes) in the search field
  3. Next, open the Windows Memory Diagnostic application
  4. Select the Restart Now and Check for Problems option
  5. Your computer will automatically reboot and diagnose the problem
  6. With this method, Windows will check the condition of your computer’s memory stick or RAM.

If indeed the problem is caused by damaged RAM, there’s nothing you can do other than to replace it.
