How to Screenshot on the Samsung – Is this your first time using a tablet from Samsung? If so, perhaps you are wondering how to take a screenshot of the Samsung Galaxy Tab series A or series S.
The two tablet series are actually not much different in terms of screen capture capabilities. The Galaxy Tab series A is Samsung’s entry-level series, while the Galaxy Tab S series is in a more expensive price range.
Both series have similar features and interfaces. The difference is, the Galaxy Tab series A does not have the Stylus pen feature also known as the S Pen. Therefore, there is a particular screenshot method for the Galaxy Tab S series using the S Pen which we can not do in the A series.
As an example, we will show you how to take a screenshot of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series. See the following for the full tutorial.
How to Screenshot on Samsung Galaxy Tab
1. Using Gestures (Swipe Gesture) – How to Screenshot on Samsung
This method is the easiest and most practical to do because it doesn’t involve any buttons. If a button is pressed frequently, there is a possibility of wear and tear which could easily break it.
In essence, efforts to reduce the frequency of keystrokes will contribute to tablet longevity. Let’s check out on how to take screenshots on the following Samsung Galaxy Tab A and S, shall we?
Make sure the Palm Swipe to Capture Feature is Enabled
How to take a screenshot by means of a palm swipe gesture is active by default. But you should make sure that this feature is actually active. Open the settings menu (Settings) then navigate to the Advanced Features menu and tap on the Motion and Gestures option as shown above.
Under the Motions and Gestures option, you will find the Palm swipe to capture option at the bottom. Tap on the toggle icon to enable this feature.
Position your palm on the left end of the tablet
As shown above, you need to open your hand (preferably the right hand). Then place the position of the hand on the far left of the tablet. Try not to touch the screen.
Slide your hand from left to right
After that, you just need to shift the position of the hand that was originally on the left, toward the right corner. If successful, it will immediately take the screenshot. To find out whether the screenshot is successful or not, pay attention to whether the screen displays a flash of white light for a second. If such a flash exists, you have successfully taken a screenshot.
Several menus can be selected after taking screenshots
Apart from appearing as a kind of “flash” or white light, there will be a bar that appears at the bottom of the screen after successfully taking a screenshot. Here, you can directly access the captured image by tapping on the far left image.
A number of other options are also present. You can tap on the second icon from the left to do editing, press the hashtag-shaped icon to add tags to images, and share to various social media or chat platforms by tapping on the share icon (far right).
The advantage of this method is that you don’t need to press any buttons, thereby reducing the possibility of damaging the buttons due to wear and tear. However, the downside is that sometimes it doesn’t work. It may happen that the tablet does not detect your hand movements and does not take screenshots. So, it needs to be done a second time if the first time doesn’t work.
2. Press Power Button + Volume Down (How to Screenshot on Samsung)
This is the most universal method, aka it can work on almost all Android smartphones and tablets. Namely, by pressing a combination of two buttons simultaneously.
In contrast to smartphones, this method is actually not practical enough because of its large size. You may have to put the tablet on the table first before doing this method. Come on, just see how!
Know Button Locations
For those of you who want to use the key combination shortcut method, the first thing is to know the location of the two buttons in question, namely power and volume down. The image above is the position of the Power and Volume Down buttons on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8.
So, if you’re facing the tablet screen, the two buttons are in the top position (when viewed in landscape). Meanwhile, if in the portrait position, the two buttons are on the right of the tablet.
Press Power and Volume Down Button Simultaneously
The next step is of course to go to the page/application/chat column that you want to take a screenshot of. Once you are in the right location, all you have to do is press the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
If that doesn’t work, the screen will show no changes, so you’ll need to do it one more time. If that doesn’t work, you may have been pressing the two buttons for too long. The reason is, if it takes too long, the screen will instead display options for power off and restart. So, make sure to press and release rather than hold.
Then, if you press the power and volume down buttons at the same time, but the volume down button isn’t pressed properly (it could be due to insufficient pressing, or the volume down button doesn’t register input because it’s damaged), then the screen will be locked. So, also make sure that the two buttons are pressed correctly.
You may need to follow the method in the picture exactly, namely with your left hand pressing two buttons while your right hand is holding the tablet from the opposite direction.
What if the screenshot doesn’t take even though you have pressed it many times?
There are several possibilities, namely:
- It could be that your finger is in the wrong position. Make sure your finger is pressing the volume down button and not up.
- Chances are, both buttons are not pressed at the same time. Maybe one finger presses the power button first then the finger presses the volume down. Make sure again that you are pressing the two buttons at the same time.
- One or both buttons are damaged/unresponsive. This could be due to wear and tear caused by buttons that are pressed too often, or have been pressed so hard. Chances are, you need to go to the service center to replace the button with a new one.
In the meantime, if pressing two buttons doesn’t work, you can try the other methods that we have provided. However, if successful, the screen will display a flashing white light for a few seconds and a screenshot bar will appear as in the screenshot method using motion gestures. When this bar appears, you can open the image, edit it, or share it with apps.
3. Screenshots of All Website Pages (How to Screenshot on Samsung)
If you capture a screenshot on the interface page, the screenshot bar that appears will only show options for editing, adding tags, and sharing. However, if it is done in a browser that displays long web pages, the bar will display an additional icon, namely a long screenshot.
This method is useful if you want to take screenshots not only of what is displayed on the screen but also of other parts that can only be displayed by scrolling down. Like on the website page or in the chat column. Check out the steps below!
Do a Swipe Gesture or Key Shortcut Combination
First, you need to take a screenshot on the site page or chat column. Anyway, it has to be on a scrollable page for this to work. You can use a combination of power and volume down, you can also swipe gestures.
Tap on the Long Screenshot Icon
Next, you’ll find a new icon on the screenshot that when selected will take a screenshot of the entire page. Tap on the icon, then the screen will scroll down while taking a screenshot.
Every time the screenshot process stops, tap on the icon a second time to return to continue the screenshot to the bottom. This way, you can also set the screenshot length.
As in the previous methods, you can also select options for editing, adding tags, and sharing by selecting the icons to the right of the long screenshot icon.
4. Using the S Pen (Galaxy Tab S Series only)
How to Screenshot on Samsung – The Samsung Galaxy S series generally comes with an S Pen in its sales box. We can utilize the S Pen to take screenshots. The advantage of using this method is that you can choose the desired selection area yourself by drawing it on the screen using the S Pen. Here’s how.
Remove the S Pen from the Tablet
The S Pen on the Galaxy Tab S series is usually attached to the tablet magnetically. Which can also work as an S Pen charger. So, if you want to take a screenshot using the S Pen, the first step is to remove the S Pen and hold it in your hand.
Select the Stylus Icon
When the S Pen is detached from the tablet body and in use, you will find an icon with a stylus-shaped image as seen above. Touch the icon using the S Pen, and a series of menus will appear.
Select Smart Select
You just need to choose smart select to start selecting the area you want to “capture”. Then, you are provided with options for the shape of the desired area, such as a rectangle, lasso (free area), oval, GIF, and also pin to screen.
After selecting the shape you want. All you have to do is carve the S Pen on the screen to select the area where you want the screenshot to capture. After selecting the area, all you have to do is lift the S Pen from the screen and select the save icon to save the screenshot to the gallery.
What’s unique is that not only you can save and share the screenshot. But you can also extract the text on the image to copy and paste it into other applications (text recognition).
How to Screen Recording via the Notification Panel
Other than being able to take screenshots. Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet users can also do screen recording via a shortcut on the notification panel.
Swipe down the top side of the screen to display the notification panel
In order to bring up the notification panel. You only need to swipe down or swipe from the top edge of the screen down using one finger. After that, the notification panel will appear.
Select the Screen Recorder Icon
In the panel that appears, you only need to search and find the screen recorder as shown in the image above. This icon is automatically available on the notification panel and is available by default (initial setting).
Select the Sound Source Option in the Sound Setting Window
Next, the Sound Settings window will appear after you select the screen recorder option. As the name implies, you can set the sound source for screen recording in this window.
To only just record the video without sound, select “no sound”. If you only want to bring up the sound of the on-screen media (for example when you open an application with a sound like a game), then select “Media sounds”.
If you want to make the mic an additional sound source apart from the media, such as when making a gameplay video or let’s play with the commentator’s voice added. Then select “media sounds and mic”. You can also choose to show the cursor when you tap or touch the screen. Tap on Start Recording to start recording.
Get to Know the Options You Can Choose while Recording
Once the Start Recording option is selected, a countdown will appear to give you time to get ready before the recording actually begins. Or, you can also choose to skip if you want to start recording immediately.
When recording is in progress, the screen will display a bar containing actions that you can use, such as pause, stop, and also annotations. If you want to doodle, just tap on the pencil-shaped icon and start drawing anywhere. In this bar, you can also change the stroke color and thickness.
If you want to end the recording process, just select the stop icon. It will save the recording results in the gallery. It’s easy, isn’t it?
These are the ways you can take screenshots on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S and A series. To view screenshots, you just need to open Gallery, select Album, then select Screenshots.
